Young Toronto

Protect the first rung of the ladder.

Young people understand both the promise and the disruption of AI. Toronto should make sure the next economy gives them real ways to learn, contribute, earn and build a life here.

A labour-market warning

Entry-level opportunity is civic infrastructure.

The campaign research baseline reports Toronto youth unemployment at 16.8% in April 2026, compared with 9.8% in April 2019. That does not prove AI caused the gap. It does make paid pathways urgent.

AI ENABLEMENT

Supplement the discipline students already chose.

AI literacy for health, construction, architecture, film, arts, business, planning and social services—not a requirement to become a programmer.

FIRST WORK

Make experience real and paid.

Co-ops, apprenticeships, capstones, internships, fellowships and supervised first-credit roles.

Learning and paid opportunity pathways for young Torontonians
HOUSING

Make staying possible.

Rental supply, complete neighbourhoods and regional connectivity matter to whether early-career residents can remain in Toronto.

MENTAL HEALTH

Right response and navigation.

Help young people reach the appropriate human support without turning AI companionship into a substitute for relationships or care.

CHILD & YOUTH AI

Preserve productive struggle.

Age-appropriate transparency, critical thinking and human relationships are part of being ready for the AI era.

Young Toronto

Protect the first rung of the career ladder.

Project Six, co-ops, apprenticeships, first-credit work and AI enablement should turn learning into proof of capability and paid opportunity.
