The governing doctrine
Capability is a tool. Human flourishing is the purpose.
The Spirit of the Machine—optimization, classification, repetition, standardization and control—can be useful. It must remain in service to freedom, family, culture, creativity, compassion, conscience, peaceful disagreement and democratic consent.
Toronto should not ask people or nature to fit inside the machine. Technology must learn to live within human, democratic and environmental limits.
The future is physical
Housing, power, mobility, climate, work and culture have to move together.
AI changes the information layer. Robotics changes the physical layer. Infrastructure determines whether either one can actually function.
Electrical headroom
Homes, TTC, hospitals, water and resilience come before export-oriented compute on constrained infrastructure.
Human + machine work
Build skills, robotics, teleoperation, maintenance and creative capability—not dependency on a few external vendors.
Culture and public life
Technology should increase the space people have for family, art, neighbourhood life and civic agency.
